DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is the new interface for Digital flat panel LCD monitors and video cards which was developed by the Digital Working Group(DDWG). Because the resolution of P&D or DFP is only 12801024 pixels("SXGA")while the future HDTV needs a resolution of 19201080 pixel, the DVI interface is becoming more prevalent and is expected to become widely used for digital display devices, including flat-panel displays and emerging digital CRTs. It's maximum resolution can be up to 20481536 pixel. Another advantage is that the digital signal can be transmitted to an analog device via DVI interface directly without a double conversion. There are a number of terms of DVI, including DVI-1 (analog&digital together), DVI-D (digital only)and DVI-A (analog only).
